Buchanan Order Management – Speed limit mapping and reviews

How we can help

Speed limits are often the highest priority movement Orders for authorities. The speed limit functionality within the ParkMap Moving Orders Module helps to deliver control and accessibility to speed limit Traffic Orders.

Our team can help you load ParkMap with existing Traffic Order data or we can conduct an on-street review. A review will provide you with exact locations for terminal/repeater signs and it will ensure that signing for speed limits is compliant with Regulations.

The system provides a colour coded representation of each length of road where a speed limit applies. Where the speed changes, ParkMap will use sign symbols to indicate the new speed limit.

Case study: Greater London

Buchanan Order Management has many years of experience mapping and monitoring the implementation of speed limit orders across the Greater London area. The original commission from Transport for London (TfL) was to collect all speed limit terminal and repeater signs across London and use this data to create a GIS speed limit database.

This database was then used in TfL’s Intelligent Speed Adaptation trials. Vehicles were fitted with mechanical speed controls and the GIS map of speed limits before being tested on London’s roads. In 2015, TfL announced that it would conduct further trials on London’s buses and, if successful, it may soon be used on all bus routes across the capital.
